Leadership

Secure Leaders

Have you ever had a superb leader? Or a mentor that sacrificed their time to invest in your life in some profound way? What was it about them that caused you to admire them?
Over the years I’ve discovered that the women who do devote a portion of their time to developing emerging leaders have one outstanding quality in common. They are secure.
Now, depending on who you would ask, there are all sorts of ways to become secure in one’s leadership. I’m sure you’ve all witnessed power plays, as one way to attempt to secure leadership. How about glass ceilings? Ever experienced one of those? Control and manipulation are other mistreatments you may have experienced as leaders have attempted to secure their positions. These are examples of leadership built on pride and position.
The Bible offers quite the opposite approach to leadership. Proverbs 20:28 instructs  “Unfailing love and faithfulness protect the king; his throne is made secure through love.” NLT
According to this verse, a leader is protected by being faithful and by being loving. His or her throne or leadership is made secure through love. Leaders that win over their people are not made secure through their position. They’re not controllers or insecure manipulators that stand in the way of up and coming leaders. No, they are secure in love. They love the people they lead. They love God and they are secure in God.
What does it mean for a leader to be secure in love? It means they’re happy for you when you succeed. It means they’re ok with it when you surpass them on the corporate ladder or the ministry flow chart. It means they’re not so absorbed with their own vision that they can’t stop along the way and deposit some seeds in your vision.
Take a few minutes today and examine your leadership:
·         Who could I encourage in leadership today?
·         Have I been standing in anyone’s way? If so, confess it as sin. God is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins when we confess them.
·         Read a book on leadership to refuel your own passion, so you don’t grow stagnant. We have some recommendations on the RP Reads page of our website: http://www.redeemedpink.com/Reads.cfm
·         Take a moment to thank God for those who have invested in your leadership development
