Eating healthy snacks for my family is a real challenge. It's so easy to grab a chocolate chip granola bar or a handful of fatty chips. It's sad to say, but I think the majority of the time we reach for those first because we don't feel like making an effort to do more. My tween and teen are getting to old for me to nag about their eating habits, so I've had to get creative.
Here's a tip to help your family eat healthier snacks:
Select in season fruit, such as berries in the summer or apples and fat-free caramel dip in the fall. Then display it on a fun platter or in a bright bowl. For example, I often place bing cheeries in a bright green fiestaware bowl with a small saucer next to it for the cherry stems and pits. We also do organic or homemade salsa or guacamole dip with organic tortilla chips.
It really works! They fill up on what you set out and it decreases their pantry and fridge hunts.
P.S. It works on Mom and Dad too!
